Help Each Other Out
Spearheaded by Kelsey Crowe, I was lucky to be involved in her launch of Help Each Other Out in San Francisco to share a postcard sized story of empathy and healing.
"Four Days after my mastectomy, I was uncomfortable in the 100 degree heat. Out of the blue, I got Jenny's text: "Do you need anything." I answered impulsively: "I need help bathing." She replied: "What time?" Jenny is not my sister or best friend. We didn't know how to do it. But she gently bathed my naked, tired body. I remember peaceful silence. A feeling of sweet renewal."
Kicking Barriers to Cancer Care in the Pants
Still mostly bald from my own chemotherapy for my second breast cancer, I found a lump in my patient's breast. An uninsured mother working full time, she didn't qualify for any breast cancer programs because she was too young. She couldn't afford to pay out of pocket to get imaging and a biopsy. So I testified again and again for California AB 1795 to lift the age restrictions. How it's law.
Mindful Movement Group
I learn from my patients everyday in clinic. In the Mindful Movement Group for Chronic Pain, we learn from each other every Monday afternoon.
